Sims In Bloom: Ballerina B-Roll in a New Studio!

First, this is a janky video and I am no director. It's just b-roll because I was kinda desperate to show off the Ballet mod animations during skilling. Hopefully this adds a little something to tomorrow's Sims in Bloom episode (9AM PST), which takes place at the SanMy Ballet School's old studio, not this lot (but what's happening in this lil' teaser, and why there's a deco sim cameraman in the corner, is explained in tomorrow's installment featuring ballerinas!) Hello all!

I'm aware that I've disappeared again and I really don't have any other excuse other than life has just been a real pain in my ass lately and I have not been left with much time to do much of anything with this blog. As it stands I've been dealing with a lot of personal and financial issues, as well as moving between jobs and also trying to work on some projects that I can get published in the next year (fingers crossed!). Even just availing myself to post gameplay pictures is getting to be a task in itself and I'm really just trying not to get any more burnt out than I already am right now, if I'm being honest.

That being said, I thought it might be fun to show off what I've been up to in my game lately! I was missing decades simming a ton and going back to reread some stuff on my blog also made me miss my darling Wakefields (who as you all know were one of my first attempts at this challenge) so I decided to reboot them in a personal gameplay for myself and. It has been a time. I added the healthcare redux mod in for an extra challenge and it has almost killed them multiple times so, I don't know. It keeps me on my toes I guess.

As you can see the order of children is a bit different this time around, but I kept all the names the name because I couldn't bear to change them. I'm still doing storylines and stuff as I go but mainly focusing on gameplay, and gosh I've been having such a good time. Its felt good to just focus playing for myself again and its something I've desperately needed in the chaos that is my life. Your favorite yandere visual novels? PS:can you reccomend some for me?

Hmmm, good question. I think most of the yandere visual novels I like tend to be ones that are less well known since I've played so many (as a person who has to feed my blog), I tend to like more unique yandere games instead of those which are more popular. And also anything that has a sub yandere (personality or otherwise) tends to have my heart as well. That being said, there are some more popular yanderes on here too just because I do like some of those ones as well.

Cemetery Mary - I'm procrastinating on doing a recommendation on this one because I want to also play Blackout Hospital since it goes a bit more into the yandere, but I really like how this story is and how is shows the reveal of the yandere. Mary is also very cute and a very interesting and fun main character.

The Snake's Taken a Spouse - this one is r18 and plays more like Degrees of Lewdity, and the artwork isn't that good, but Shimil is... charming. I like him and I feel bad for everything that he has to go through. It's cool seeing how he tries his best for you.

Sweetest Valentine/Where Two Flowers Meet - I'm lumping these two together mostly because I just like the way that Syllphan writes stories. They both are very different from each other but have pretty interesting takes on yanderes. I need to double check if For Amerta has one, but even if it doesn't I'll probably still love the game.

Karamu - Karamu... is just really well done. I really like stylized games and Karamu does it wonderfully with it's blue color scheme and comic book like aesthetic. Plus we get to slowly unveil the mystery the main character has gotten herself into.

Stuck in a Yandere Visual Novel.... Help!! - from what I played in the first demo, I really like the comedy in this one. It knows the yandere trope pretty well so I like how they play around with it. Everything is kind of in a cutesy pink aesthetic, which is also a fun thing. I really need to get around to finishing the game.

ITYH: Horror Otome/Saccharine - Saccharine is less of a visual novel, but like with Syllhan, I really like Amiralo's writing style. Most of their stories are bittersweet with not so happy endings in a lot of them, and very interesting yanderes overall.

Mushroom Oasis - I'm pretty guilty of trying to get a bunch of people to play the game but listen, Mycheal is very cute and I really like his design. The creator is still working on it and it has become one of the most popular yandere games under the yandere tag on itch.io, so that's probably a good sign right?

Froot Basket Valentine / Froot Basket Dark Chocolate - Dark Chocolate is a prequel to Valentine, but they are both fun to play through. Valentine is a bit more goofy since you see everyone's heads as fruits for the most part while Dark Chocolate is far darker. But it is cool seeing how the yandere progresses in each of these stories.

Heart Fragment - very well made game, though Kay is kind of a light but clingy yandere. And boy do I love my clingy yanderes. Still this is probably one of those games that we play more for the story rather than the yandere. Still would totally recommend it because it is very, VERY well made.

The Science of Staying Awake - big fan of the concept of someone- Something that so desperately wants to hold you but also drives you insane if you do? That's very cool and the horror on that is really creepy if you think about it and also a bit sad.

Kimbark Street - I like seeing the point of view of yanderes, or just any character that is on the more evil side. You can really see how their obsession drives them and what they will do to get what they want, whether the person they love knows it or not.

You can probably see I don't have as many dark yandere games on this list, which is mostly because while I do enjoy darker yandere content (in terms of murder sims and whatnot) I also am not the target audience for them since I love to torture my yanderes, not be tortured by them. Still, I can admit that they are fun to play through. I have a lot more that I like, but here is hopefully a good list of games that you too might enjoy.

“Not yet! But what if people start reading deeper into everything we do? Then we’re in deep shit.”

“You’re in deep shit.” He corrected without much thought, immediately facepalming himself for two reasons.

One, that was an asshole thing to say. And two, the way your face immediately fell made him feel like crap.

“Oh yeah… I forgot…” You whispered softly, more to yourself than out loud.

“No no, wait.” He didn’t like that expression on your face. “I didn’t mean that. Slip of the tongue. You’re right. It’s our problem, and we should fix it together.”

Friends don’t leave friends to drown. Even if said friend is in this situation because of their own stupid, idiotic actions.

“Yeah…” You nodded before looking away.

Now, it was like a wall was between the two of you. Beomgyu felt kinda bad. This whole time you had been trying to be nice to him and build a friendship, but he only gave you half-hearted reactions and treatment. Sure, you had probably only done it so that your fake relationship would look realer, but still… You were trying so hard… And he wasn’t trying enough.

No wonder he was so confused about whether he liked you as a friend or partner. Fake dating really is a terrible idea.

“Hey, why don’t we stream again? Like nothing happened, and if someone asks we can shut it down there?” He suggested, wanting to fill the silence and show you he cared at the same time.

“That could work… What should we say?”

“Pretty much that that person is reaching. It’s simple, to the point and we don’t have to make anything up.” Beomgyu made a mental note to also make a tweet condemning any of his fans for spewing hate about you. “How about that?”

“Sounds good to me. When should we do this?”

“Yeonjun actually wanted to be in one of my vlogs, so we can meet up with him tomorrow? Hang out and then record? Two birds with one stone…”

“Sure.” He dragged out the last syllable, making it extremely clear that he was being sarcastic.

“You know what? Let’s go! Right now!”

“No thanks, I don’t wanna have to explain to Yeonjun why we have to flee back to Korea before I get arrested.”

“You are not funny!”

The way you guys could playfully banter like this was making Beomgyu even more confused. He enjoyed your company, which was normal for friends… But he couldn’t help but think you were so attractive the way you shook your fist at him. It’s not like he wanted to kiss you. Or did he? Do friends kiss? God, he sounded like a loser right now.

Maybe he should text his friends again…

If Taehyun was here he’d probably set Beomgyu straight. But Taehyun would also drag him for every decision he’s ever made and then call him dumb. Jake was unhelpful for things like this, given he was a prime example of what not to do in relationships. Yeonjun was helpful… when he was available. Which wasn’t often. He was probably out right now. Keeho? He was pretty normal and pretty helpful too… But, he was addicted to being in people’s business and getting himself involved with both sides of the party...He did not want Keeho to start talking to you.

Maybe he should just take a nap.

I enjoyed the way Graham Rowan read Hennessey’s letter, and how Felix Trench screamed as Renfield; the latter was interesting to me because if I hadn’t known the context, I wouldn’t have known it was him. Screaming distorts voices, more so if one’s angry like Renfield was.

Btw, I’m not good with UK accents, so I’m curious what accent Hennessey had. Was it Yorkshire?

Oh, the hoarse way Seward begins his diary. Before he even said the line “I am too miserable,” I could tell he’d been crying or struggling not to. Then the way he grated out the next lines… OH, that grief. It’s so perfectly done, I can easily empathize with the feeling of talking through a cramping chest. Mr. Sims, how did you execute that so beautifully? Also love how he pauses and breathes slowly to center himself before continuing. I am not sorry, but I am LOVING that first paragraph.

And Van Helsing’s quiet, soothing tones to Holmwood as he brings him into the drawing room. I’ve said before that I think Van Helsing talks way too much, but it was very comforting to hear the way Alan Burgon delivered his lines. Lots of sympathy there.

In fact, every line in this entry was uttered so well. The way Seward says, “Ah, well, poor girl, there is peace for her at last,” with forced energy as he shoves his grief aside for later. He’s putting on the tough act, but we all know how emotional he is privately.

By the way, the music shifts are wonderful without being melodramatic, as Lucy shifts back and forth between herself and the vampiric state. And the way it turns chilling when Van Helsing says, “Not so; alas! not so. It is only the beginning!” The music and line deliveries work well together, like harmony.

I enjoyed Van Helsing’s monologue to Seward as he practically begged him to keep trusting him. Mr. Burgon delivered those lines with such deliberation and force, that I never realized in reading the book before that Van Helsing was desperate for Seward to keep trusting him through these strange and apparently useless and grisly next steps. I also like it because of yet another issue I have with the character of Van Helsing—he tends to overtake the spotlight, in my opinion. He talks so much and directs the flow of who talks and when whenever he’s in the room (this is just how it seems to me when I’m reading it). He’s got all the knowledge (apparently), yet holds it back until he decides everyone else needs to hear it. I have issue because, when I read it as text, it just seems too controlling. And that’s why I appreciate the way Mr. Burgon said those couple paragraphs. It showed me that there are things he can’t control and has to ask, even beg for: his friend’s trust. And Jack’s trust means a lot to him.

Er, tl;dr—good job, everybody. This episode was awesome. I loved it.

If Clerith is canon, then how come there only exists the possibility for Cloud to kiss Tifa in the game? At the point where Aerith is still alive. And as for your question about why Aerith needs to die like in the original, it’s partly because she needs to be in the Lifestream to summon Holy. There’s also the fact that Final Fantasy 7 is a game about loss and finding the strength to still live despite said loss. Aerith’s death works because she was a character who loved life, and thus to see that vibrant spirit suddenly snuffed out is tragic. And as for the whole Clerith vs Cloti thing, the Sector 5 dream date kind of puts a wrench in that with Aerith’s dialogue about “knowing where they stand” and the difference between “liking someone and liking someone”. The love triangle is an illusion that ends when Cloud regains himself, and the player can no longer choose dialogue options for him. Nojima seems to be going full steam ahead with Cloti and Zerith in Part 3, and while it’s fine not to prefer that, that’s what’s happening.

The reason why I question the choice of killing Aerith again is because the devs have said that dying is a fate/promise that Aerith is desperately trying to escape. Couple that with the fact they promoted Remake and Rebirth so far with posters as, “Defying fate,” and making the characters say “the future isn’t set in stone”. Near the ending of Remake you the player gets to defeat fate. Introducing alternative worlds where Zack and Biggs are alive. Implying that even if Cloud didn’t save Aerith in his world there is another world where she did survive and that Aerith is waiting for him. All of this sweet build up and for it to what? To go down the route of, “psych, no you cannot change your life. You need to give up and resign to whatever is coming your way.” Giving hope to not follow through with what you have been hinting at isn’t good storytelling. It’s pure sadism. But no matter. I am relatively confident that Aerith will get her wish. To live long happy life with her friends and Cloud.

Zerith is a ‘couple’ that doesn’t exist. It was created by certain shippers to get Aerith out of the way without being overtly hateful to her. Aerith is allowed to have somewhat complicated feelings to Zack without her feelings for Cloud being diminished. Zack may have been her first love, but there is no doubt that Cloud is her true love. That is clearly established in the alternative world where Marlene says Aerith is In love with Cloud. This is even further hammered down when Aerith has the opportunity to fight with either of them near the end of Rebirth but while she heals Zack she chooses to stand by Cloud and with him fight against Sephiroth. Zack himself has accepted that Aerith moved on. He wants Cloud to save her and not let her die. If only people more understanding like him.

As for the kiss you speak of. Nojima said that all the Gold Saucers dates are separate from the main story and more similar to dating sims. The fact that the kiss did not change the relationship between Cloud and Tifa in the main story shows it should be treated like it never happened. No impact means not relevant. It’s interesting you believe that is the direction the game is going. We each can have our interpretation and can only wait for the part 3 game in a few years to confirm whose analysis is right. Until then I say goodbye, anon.

Honestly, I'm relieved. This game was still looking so rough and I'd feel much more comfortable with a June release than this coming out in 6 weeks.

I was watching a video from SatchoSims* and he talked about how LBY is more just a compilation of gameplay features without any gameplay and he definitely pinpointed my main issue with the game despite my excitement for it. I just don't know what I'm going to DO or what I will want to do because they haven't really done a good job of explaining the rules and structures and goals of the game (aka what the game is about).

I'm still excited for it and will definitely play it in June and am eager to check out the modding tools but yeah, what are we doing?

The Sims was a time management game. You had to figure your shit out and meet your basic needs all while juggling other mini challenges and responsibilities and TRY to become successful which would then unlock cool shit to buy or do that you would have the time to do because the money and rewards and perks you grinded for allowed you to do it.

And then TS2 improved on that by focusing on interpersonal relationships and making that more complex so that Sims felt more unique but also had to focus more on mental health and well-being and the drama that comes with interacting with other people.

Then TS3 took that even farther by basically unleashing chaos all around you with an open world so you have less control over what is going on so while you are grinding away to create a dream house for the Sim you want to marry and grow old with, you head over to the park and see your future spouse making out with some asshole in zebra print pants! And then on top of that, they deepened skills and hobbies so Sims have soooo much to do so that life goals are so much more diverse (though I will admit this came at the expense of interpersonal relationships). People often say that they wish TS3 had TS2's hobby system but in my opinion, it not only does but it's infinitely much better than TS2's. I would argue that TS3 at its core is a game about hobbies and interests.

I love that LBY seems to be wanting to improve on TS3 (because TS4 definitely didn't) and give us a true life simulator but I still don't understand what the game is about. They show off how many traits they have and how we can mod in our own traits but what do the traits means? If a character has a Difficult Childhood trait, how is that going to affect their ability to form relationships, fall in love, be a good parent? They said we could have truly homeless characters to play Rags to Riches challenges. That's awesome! Can we see that? How does the economic system work? Could it be integrated, for example, where household taxes and bills actually go towards community development? Like THIS is gameplay. I don't want to see another treasure trove video or someone doing work tasks. Those are features, not core gameplay and if it is then I'm afraid Rod Humble is making TS4 competitor, not TS3 which would be a shame.

*I don't know if I like him or not, but he has good viewpoints compared to the other high-profile Sims 4 YouTubers who at this point are practically on the Maxis payroll desperately trying to pretend that game is interesting because it literally pays their bills 😭😭

Week 8 Blog Post #7 10/17

This is my gaming avatar from Sims. Her name is Kathy White and she is a “trad-wife” in the suburbs. When creating Kathy and her world I wanted to base it off my favorite type of women in the media: rich women/ housewives. I got my inspo from shows like Desperate Housewives, The Real Housewives empire, Sex and the City, etc. I didn’t have to think of a username for her it kind of came to my head- something simple: Kathy White. I obviously didn’t base her off me so her being a rich white woman portraying a lifestyle I find entertaining was the thought behind how she looks. She’s wearing simple clothing, nothing too flashy but a pop of color in her heels and makeup. I think a big part of Sims is being able to disguise one’s identity through these avatars but the only thing I disguised in this avatar was my race. I guess I could’ve made her Hispanic like myself but I was basing her off fictional characters that don’t look like me. I can connect this to what we’ve been discussing in class to racism translating between online and the real world with the media constantly creating an image of how something is supposed to look like.

This is my day-to-day “Memoji” that I had created through iPhone’s avatar feature. I used my name- Makayla Lopez and ultimately tried to match the avatar as best I could to me by details such as freckles, think eyebrows, and the silver hoops I’ve had for years. Not pictured here but the clothing on this avatar is a knitted sweater- my favorite clothing item ever. Going back to how I wanted this avatar to mirror me I also incorporated personal taste in clothing. I was not interested in disguising my identity for this avatar as it is the icon representing my contact information.

This would be my social avatar or bitmoji from Snapchat. The thought behind the creation of this was again my personal taste with clothing such as the baggier jeans and knitted sweater and my efforts to mirror me exactly through details such as my freckles and dark features. The username is also just my name because I would want to represent myself honestly. Oh, I love them. Especially Kazuma. You can feel the young crush and the old love still there for him, the way he still feels so much and so big for Ren but tries so hard to not push because he's insecure and he's unsure and he's just come back and Ren is still this superstar in his eyes, this man who is just too good to be true.

And this comes back to all the feelings and the moments they share. Kazuma feels like Ren has, and always had, surpassed him in every way. Kazuma feels constantly like he is looking up at the perfect Ren, the perfect man.

(Kazuma spent the summer vacation in the hospital and no one knew, no one had any idea how sick he was or that he went back to the US because of that illness and how long has Ren thought he left because of him?)

I am dying to know how everything went down while Kazuma was basically in a coma and unaware of the world and then left without getting the chance to say goodbye because so much had to have happened it can't even be imagined.

I cannot wait for what happened because both Ren and Kazuma left and I strongly suspect Ren made the choice to leave.

Kazuma's insecurity is going to destroy me. Absolutely and utterly destroy me. He wants desperately to be close to Ren but the secrets and the space between them leaves him feeling empty and he's trying to cross the line between them but he's too scared of losing even the semblance of a one-sided (he feels) friendship he has with him now.

The barrier and the introduction and just all of it...

The implications here about how much Ren talks about him and cares about him and how Kazuma is just going to ignore that entirely because of his own worries and fears.

PS I love this lanky doodle of a man who is just leaning all over the place and takes up whatever space he feels like and does not care how delicate the dance between these two is right now. He is far, far too much fun.

Taking into account that Kazuma literally missed an entire summer due to illness and then moved and lost his best friend/crush/first love but also that Ren lost Kazuma and then left... there's so much between them and we know so little, like an iceberg of hurt floating between them. Also, @absolutebl, that line is so good in every context and I love that there is no answer yet because neither narrative, neither the past nor the present, has reached the point that either of them is ready or realizes what the other person doesn't know or needs to know.

Ren looks happy in the middle of a crowd but we know wouldn't have come if Kazuma hadn't asked him and Kazuma off by himself, entirely alone at a different table, watching the scene unfold.

Oh man. This show is breaking my heart in the most perfect ways. It's Ren accepting the invitation from Kazuma but rejecting the rest of what he wants and Kazuma taking that was a general rejection and the shock he has every time their coworkers call them friends, close friends, good friends, because he doesn't feel like one.

And then he takes care of drunk Run carefully and tenderly and with so much of his heart going into it every choice. Kazuma still loves Ren so much even if he feels like he's on the outside looking in. That's just familiar to him.

Kazuma stopped Ren from having casual sex with a stranger and then they fucked and then Kazuma got sick and vanished.
